Top 10 most expensive estates in Nairobi

Owing a home in Nairobi, Kenya’s capital, has become very hard for average citizens. In a city where more than 85% of its residents are renting houses, buying a house is beyond their reach. The prices of homes keep increasing the day, requiring potential home owners to literally empty their bank accounts or take huge mortgages. Housing has been one of Kenya’s fastest growing sectors over the last decade, fuelled by a growing middle class, with returns from real estate outpacing equities and government securities.

Strict zoning laws play a big role in protecting the value of houses in high-end estates by preventing encroachment by apartment blocks and unplanned developments. Access to international schools, shopping malls, good road network, higher security and recreation facilities have also helped push up demand for houses in some estates.
