Sometimes you need to record a phone call to listen back to it, whether it’s for work, business or sentimental reasons. Neither the Android or iPhone devices come with a built-in call recorder, but their respective app stores are full of options to download. It’s important to note that the laws on recording calls vary considerably country-to-country, so make sure you’re not breaking the law when recording phone calls.
If you’re determined to save your phone conversation as an audio file, there are a few different options available to you to do so.
Google Voice offers free recording. You have to first enable call recording on your Google Voice account, and you can only record during incoming calls to your Google Voice number. When in the app, find the settings menu, then select ‘calls’ then toggle ‘incoming call settings’. When this is activated, you press the number 4 on the number pad while on a call, the app will begin recording the call. Both parties will hear a voice announcing when the recording has begun, so both parties know the conversation is being recorded. When you hang up, Google saves the recording directly to your inbox.
If you can’t use Google Voice, or don’t want to, there are other call recorder apps that you can use – but they have drawbacks. You can search for the apps on the Play Store or App Store like Call Recorder for Android and Call Recorder Lite for iPhone, but some of the apps cost, others require you to pay depending on how much of a call you record and the free ones have dubious security. If you want a free one it’s best to check the store ratings and reviews just to make sure it works well.
