Your health is a valuable asset that you have and there are diverse ways to quickly get healed. A great way to fight an illness is for you to prevent it. Developing a strong immune system is important and it is something that you incorporate into your lifestyle. Your immune system protects your body against persistent bacteria that want to attack it. The immune system is a gatekeeper for what stays out of your body and what gets into your body. 

Viruses and toxins do not stand a chance in your body when your immune system is functioning properly. You can use Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) medicines to boost your immune system. Your body does not perform at its full potential when you are sick. When you get a flu it means that your immune system was not able to eliminate it. When you recover from a flu it means that your body was able to eliminate the invader. 

You can help your body fight illnesses when you boost your immune health. Lifestyle and dietary changes can help you strengthen your immunity and fight pathogens or organism that cause diseases. Depending on the nature of your sickness, a prescription or medication may be required. The good news is that there are many ways you can keep your system strong and healthy.

3. Get enough sleep

Sleep is very important to keeping your immunity strong and healthy. It is a chance for the body to rest and recover. It is important that you have a good sleep for 7-9 hours every night. You should remove distractions when you want to sleep and eliminate sugary foods late at night. Sleep is closely tied with immunity and poor or inadequate sleep can make a person susceptible to sicknesses. 

A study found that people who sleep for less than 6 hours are likely to catch a cold than those who sleep for more than 6 hours. Adequate rest can strengthen your natural immunity and it can help your immune system fight illnesses. You should limit your screen time before bed as the blue light that is emitted from your TV, computer or phone can disrupt the natural wake-sleep cycle or cicardian rhythm. Sleeping in a dark room is also good for your immune system.

4. Eat fruits and vegetables

Fruits and vegetables are rich in nutrients and antioxidants than can keep your immune system strong and healthy. With fruits and vegetables your body will be able to fight pathogens. The antioxidants in fruits and vegetables help to decrease inflammation. Chronic inflammation has been linked to health conditions such as heart disease, Alzheimer’s, certain cancers and so on. Many plant-based foods also have antiviral and antimicrobial properties, which help us fight off infection.

5. Limit added sugars

Research has shown that curbing your sugar intake can aid weight loss and decrease inflammation. Chronic health problems like obesity, health disease and type 2 diabetes can be curbed by limiting your sugar intake. Limiting added sugars can boost your immune system.

6. Stay hydrated

It is important that you stay as dehydration affects your overall health. Dehydration can hinder your performance, mood, focus, heart function and kidney function. Dehydration can also cause headaches. You should drink enough fluids daily. It is advisable to take water because it is free of sugar, calories and additives. Drink fluids when you are thirsty.

7. Enjoy the sun

You can improve your immune system by moderately exposing yourself to sunlight. You can take a Vitamin D supplement if you are unable to go outside. Fresh air and the sun is good for everyone if they want to keep their immune system strong.

8. Eat fermented foods or take probiotic supplements

You can eat fermented foods if you want a strong immune system. Fermented foods are rich in beneficial bacteria known as probiotics. Foods like yogurt, kimchi, sauerkraut, nattō and kefir are good for your health. Flourishing gut bacteria can help your immune cells to differentiate between healthy cells and organisms that are harmful. You can take probiotic supplements to aid your immune system if you do not eat fermented foods. Fermented foods and probiotics help the immune system by identifying and targeting harmful pathogens.

9. Have a healthy gut

80% of your immune system is in your digestive so it is important that organs like your gut are kept health. Good bacteria are beneficial to the health. Your digestive system will function normally and stay balanced with the aid of probiotics.

10. Be moderate when it comes to alcohol

High amounts of alcohol can negatively affect the health of any person. High levels of alcohol can slow down recovery time and limit the ability of your body to fight infection. People who drink too much are likely to get pneumonia, liver disease, acute respiratory syndrome and certain cancers.

11. Supplement wisely

There are supplements that can keep your immune system strong and healthy. This supplements include vitamin C, vitamin D, zinc, garlic, Echinacea and elderberry. It is important to note that you should not overdo supplements. You should consult your doctor so that you’ll know what you need.

12. Eat healthy fats

Healthy fats such as those found in salmon and olive oil can help boost the immune system of your body and decrease inflammation.  The Omega-3 acid that is found in salmon and chia seed helps to fight inflammation. Olive oil is highly anti-inflammatory and it helps to fight off disease causing viruses and bacteria. Olive oil aids in the fight against type 2 diabetes and heart disease.

13. Don’t smoke

Smoking cigarettes can affect your immune health. The chemicals release by cigarettes such as carbon monoxide, nicotine, cadmium and nitrogen oxide can interfere with the growth and function of the immune cells in any person. Smoking also worsens infections such as pneumonia, tuberculosis, flu and rheumatoid arthritis. It is important that you avoid smoking if you want to keep your immune system strong and healthy.

Other tips to keep your immune system strong and healthy include:

  • Wash your hands frequently
  • Monitor your blood pressure.
  • Keep up with your vaccinations
  • Take time for yourself
  • Laugh more
